Creating a wellness community for all

The Wellness Institute strives to be an inclusive and accessible space for all. Our policies ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected in our facilities. We encourage all members to read and follow these guidelines.

Use mobile devices appropriately

While your device may power your exercise with music and fitness tracking tools, please use it respectfully and avoid talking on your phone in the fitness areas or using it in private areas. Our changing rooms are intended to offer a relaxing and private atmosphere for all. Photography and/or video recording are not permitted in the locker areas or during classes.

Take care of your equipment

Wipe down machines, mats and any equipment after use to remove sweat and germs. Do not drop free weights. Repeated impact will cause damage. Put weights and other equipment back after you are done. When others are waiting for cardio equipment, please stick to the 30-minute time limit. If you are waiting to use a piece of equipment and someone is using it, let them know you’re keen to use it after them. While it’s not an expectation, some people don’t mind letting you “work-in’ between their sets.

Use caution on the track

When using the track, work-in a break in traffic to avoid collisions with runners and walkers. Note that inside lanes are set aside for walking, while outside lanes move at a faster pace. As traffic is one-way and alternates throughout the week, be sure to check directional arrows at the end of the track every day.

Practice good pool etiquette

Members play a role in keeping our pool a respectful and welcoming area. Classes and spots are first-come-first-served. If someone is in your preferred spot, please choose another. While there are reasons for wanting the door open or closed, please decide with others during free time or when the class votes. The instructor’s decision is final. Dress appropriately

Members must wear a bathing suit in the hot tub and a towel or bathing suit in the steam room. Please cover up while lounging on the couches and use a towel when sitting on the benches to change.

Keep the focus on fitness in class

Help keep classes fun and safe for all by saving personal conversations for after the workout. This allows everyone to hear the cues and lets our instructors focus on the routine, safety and form of participants. Of course, we encourage you to speak up for help when needed.

Don’t make running late for class your cardio

Life happens. We understand that some commitments require you to arrive a bit late or leave a bit early. If this is the case, please take a spot as close to the equipment area as possible, move equipment carefully and enter or exit quietly. If you are over 10 minutes late, please wait for the next class.

Book your court time

Avoid misunderstandings on the badminton and pickleball courts by booking your time in advance. While you may use an empty court without booking, you must end your game and give up the court to any group who has booked the time. Ask our front desk about the booking policy for more details.

How do I use the Wellness Institute App to Swipe-In at the Front Desk?

This feature is available in both the App and Wellness Online Services.

How do I use the Featured Programs?

There is a selection of Featured Programs with suggested exercise programs for different skill levels. Once you have selected a plan, it appears in the My Movement section. When you scan equipment included in your Featured Program or select them manually, your previous sets and reps will appear. If you push yourself and update them, the new values will be waiting for your next workout.

For a customized workout plan, please contact us at personaltraining@wellnessinstitute.ca.

How do I connect my apps and devices?

Click the ‘Profile’ button in the bottom right, then ‘Settings’ and ‘Connect apps and devices.’ Through this section, you can see Google Fit on Androids and iHealth on iPhones. You can start collecting ‘MOVE Points’ through your phone’s connected apps and devices through the following 3rd party tools:

  • Fitbit
  • Garmin
  • MapMyFitness
  • MyFitnessPal
  • Polar
  • Runkeeper
  • Strava
  • Swimtag
  • Withings

What are MOVEs or Move Points?

MOVEs are the app’s unit of movement measurement. The more you move, the more you collect.  For example, running for 10 minutes at low intensity accumulates about 200 MOVEs. The faster and longer you run, cycle, row, or whatever your favourite exercise is, the more MOVEs you’ll earn. They help you visualize your workout intensity in the Results section.

What About Spin Class?
