Survey Summary

Thank you to the 81 members who took the time to complete our Group Fitness Survey and the 110 members who responded to our Court Sports Survey. Your feedback helps us understand what you value most and where we can continue to improve.

Overall, members told us that our instructors, quality of instruction, variety, and welcoming group environment are some of the best parts of our Group Fitness programs. You also told us that class scheduling, registration, variety, and facility cleanliness are areas where we can do better.

Pickleball was the most represented sport in the Court Sports Survey, with 65% of respondents identifying as pickleball players. When asked about court access, 53% of respondents preferred a combination of the paddle system and bookable court time, rather than relying on only one system. Respondents indicated a preference for 45-minute bookable court times and provided valuable feedback about badminton, basketball and volleyball.`

The biggest opportunities identified across all court sports were:

  • Court availability
  • Access to bookable court time
  • Fairness of court access
  • Overall experience

What We’re Doing

STUDIO FITNESS

We heard that strength training, recovery-focused programming and studio cleanliness are important to you.
  • We’ve added daily floor cleaning to help improve the cleanliness of the studio environment.
  • We’ve added a Mobility class to the afternoon schedule, responding to your requests for more mobility and recovery-focused programming.
  • Strength is a major focus for our members—64% of our studio classes are strength-based, reflecting the strong interest we heard in strength training. Strength training icons will been added to our printed schedules to make these classes easier to identify.

Some studio classes are currently at capacity, so we’re making changes to help improve access and organization: Registration will be added to all studio classes beginning September 14.

AQUA FITNESS

We heard clearly that access to Aqua classes is important to our members.

  • With high demand and classes currently at capacity, we are exploring options to make the registration process as accessible and equitable as possible, while ensuring available spots are distributed fairly. We hope to pilot an approach in the near future.
  • Based on your feedback about class times, we’ve added three new weekly Aqua classes, including morning, evening, and weekend options.

YOGA

You told us that cleanliness and Kaiut Yoga offerings are important to you.

  • To improve cleanliness and hygiene, we have increased the frequency of blanket washing .
  • We are adding an additional Kaiut Yoga class to the Fall schedule.

SPIN

We heard that some members would appreciate additional opportunities to become familiarity with Spin.

  • We are adding three Spin 101 classes specifically designed for members who are new to Spin. This will also be great for seniors to provide a welcoming environment and help increase comfort and confidence for those who requested this option.

COURT SPORTS

Based on your feedback, we are making several changes:

  • We extended Paddle-System hours every day until 12:45 pm. These changes provide additional opportunities for members to participate during high-demand periods.
  • To better distinguish programming and provide clearer options based on experience and skill level:
    • Pickleball Intermediate will be Tuesdays at 6:45 pm and
    • Pickleball 101 will be Mondays at 3pm and Fridays at 10:30 am.
  • Pickleball and Badminton will have additional time on Thursday evenings: 5:00–6:15 pm

Some schedule adjustments were necessary to accommodate changes:

  • Some Group Training times will change:
    • Tuesdays will be 5:30–6:30 pm
    • Thursdays will be 6:30–7:30 pm.
  • Thursday Volleyball will be adjusted to 7:45–9:00 pm.
  • Tuesday basketball times will also shift slightly, but no basketball court time will be lost.

Fair Play & Being Welcoming

One of the most important messages we heard through the survey was the importance of fair and equitable access to court time. The paddle system and court rotation rules are designed to give as many members as possible an opportunity to play.

We ask everyone to help make the court environment welcoming and enjoyable for all players by:

  • Following the posted court and paddle-system rules
  • Respecting the established rotation
  • Using one paddle per player within the paddle system
  • Not extending games by changing or rolling back scores
  • Avoiding the creation of additional “rules within the rules”
  • Respecting players of different skill and experience levels
  • Welcoming newer players and helping them understand how the system works
  • Treating other players with patience and respect

The courts belong to our entire membership. Fair play means making room for others and following the same rules for everyone. We want members of all abilities and experience levels to feel comfortable participating.

Understanding Court Capacity

We know that demand for pickleball has grown significantly, and we understand why members would like more court time. At the same time, the Wellness Institute offers court sports as part of our broader programming—we are not a dedicated court sport facility.

We have two courts available at all times, with additional courts opened during selected peak periods. These courts need to support pickleball, badminton, basketball, volleyball and other activities. We cannot provide unlimited court time for any one sport, and increasing access for one group can directly reduce access for another.

Our goal is to make the best use of the space available while providing fair and equitable access across all court sports.

A Note About Court Lighting

We understand that some members would prefer changes to the current lighting. However, we will not be making changes to the existing lighting design.

The court area was intentionally designed with significant natural light, and this is a feature that is appreciated by many members across the Wellness Institute. As a medical fitness facility serving a broad membership, we need to consider the overall environment of the facility—not just the needs of one activity.

We appreciate that the lighting may not be ideal for every individual or sport, but the current design will remain in place.

Looking Ahead

We’ll continue using your feedback to guide future programming, scheduling, and improvements to the member experience. Thank you for helping us make The Wellness Institute a place where everyone can move, connect, and thrive. We may not be able to accommodate every request, but your feedback helps us identify meaningful improvements and make the best use of the space available. We appreciate your patience, cooperation and, most importantly, your commitment to creating a fair, welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.

Keep the feedback coming—we’re listening!
