The Confidence to Embrace Life
Nandita Selvanathan’s love of life is evident. She treasures sharing her gifts to promote peace and wellness – teaching meditation, mandala painting and Indian cooking, and performing traditional and classical Indian music on the slide guitar.
Nandita is also managing two separate heart conditions. Thanks to her positive outlook and the comprehensive approach of the Wellness Institute, she has gained the knowledge and confidence to improve her overall health, so she can continue to do the things she loves.
Nandita first came to Wellness in 2015, to participate in the four-month Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. She was feeling generally unwell due to the challenges with her heart, and from lingering stress from a previous job.
During her time in the Cardiac Rehab program, she was helped by physicians, nurses, dietitians and kinesiologists, from whom she learned the benefits of exercise, heart-healthy cooking, and stress management. The team also conducted a thorough assessment of her health and created a personalized program for her – through which she was able to improve her cardiac fitness and overall strength.
“I had plenty of assistance to guide me through,” she says. “I really appreciated that, because it gave me a different perspective and taught me that I could take care of my health. I realized I needed that guidance to make my health a priority. They helped me to understand that I could manage my condition.”

Nandita remains an active Wellness member. She visits the facility two or three times each week, spending an hour or more participating in a range of activities – walking on the track, pedalling a stationary bike, using the rowing and weight machines, and taking part in pool classes. She is comforted knowing that experienced staff are on hand to help anytime she needs it.
“I love it here. The whole team has been very kind to me,” she says. “It’s a wonderful atmosphere they have created. They have helped me to do the best that I can for my health.”
