Stroke and neurological conditions can result in decreased balance, changes in muscle strength and tone, and reduced mobility. The goal of treatment is to enable the brain to re-learn, adapt, and change itself.
Neurological Physiotherapy begins with an initial assessment by a registered Physiotherapist to determine your current physical abilities. The assessment will be used to a create a treatment plan personalized to your needs. Plans may include therapeutic exercises such as balance, cardiovascular, gait, and muscle strength training. Other physiotherapy modalities and hands-on techniques may be used to assist in motor recovery. A home exercise program is part of the treatment plan and improves your overall outcomes.
Neurological physiotherapy is appropriate for anyone with a history of a neurological condition that has resulted in physical limitations or those recovering after a stroke.
If you are a personal caregiver interested in this service for another, please keep in mind that they should be able to follow direction and be willing and motivated to participate in both the treatments and the home exercise program.
