Brain injury and disorders are responsible for more death and disability than cardiovascular disease and cancer combined. With proper assessment, many dysfunctions that can impact ability to return to work can be addressed. Our cognitive rehabilitation Occupational Therapist is a certified BrainFx 360 Evaluator, able to provide cognitive assessment and work conditioning.
Assessing and understanding cognitive capacity of an individual can be an important tool in preparation for return to work. Assessment can also be used to set a cognitive health baseline in cases where there is potential risk for declining capacity or co-existing issues involved. Early assessment allows for intervention before maladaptive behaviours begin and minimizes risk of secondary disabilities.
You may wish to establish a health baseline due to:
- Chronic disease
- Mental illness or mood disorder
- Chronic pain
- Mild cognitive impairment
- Traumatic injury
- Neurodegenerative disease
- Other cognitive complaints
The assessment is standardized and randomized, and can be used regardless of age and education to provide a clear comparison of function. It provides a detailed history about individual neurofunction from multiple perspectives and tracks performance on 30 functional cognitive skills, assesses balance and screens for sensory skills like hearing and vision that can negatively impact cognitive performance.
Cognitive Work Conditioning
Using the Brain Fx Cognitive Assessment tool to identify areas of concern, we will develop a custom return to work plan with exposure to work simulation activities and physical reconditioning as needed. The assessment allows us to track improvement and understand the client's progress accurately as we increase activity participation, work to build cognitive tolerance, and encourage symptom management.
Reconditioning is appropriate for clients experiencing:
- Problems with memory or attention
- Headaches that interfere with work and personal activities
- Cognitive fatigue with activity
- Problems reading, doing computer tasks
BrainFx Assessments are designed to measure what other cognitive tests can miss to provide clinically useful information about neurofunction.
